With the recent release of the precious Ice Cream Sandwich source code, the CyanogenMod team took off like dogs at the race once the gate’s are opened. The team is hoping to get CyanogenMod9 up and running on some lucky Android device in about two months time.

The above quote was released on Cyanogen’s official Twitter account today and we can tell it sure got some folks speculating as to which device might be the first to get it and which are to follow. Feel free to sound off in the comments below as to which device you’d like to see the OS gracefully hijack. We’re looking forward to seeing what the team can do with this and which devices it can manage to pack the awesome OS into. Stay tuned as you’ll be the first to know once they announce the “chosen one”.

As you guys may or may not know, I am a Linux supporter. A HUGE LINUX SUPPORTER! Now knowing that, the next thing may shock you. The majority of the computing that I do is in Windows (Windows 7 to be exact).

Now, I know what you must be thinking: “How can I guy who even has Linux in his name even dare work with Windows?” There is an explanation to this: I’ve become attached to a few ways getting things to work due to the software provided to me. Basically, due to certain situations, be it classes or devices that I own, I needed Windows to run software that just couldn’t be run on Linux, like iTunes (another gasp! I used to own an iPod Touch before switching to Android). Another reason why I’m trying to hold on to Windows is because of Android. I can’t learn to develop Android apps on my personal device without Windows (at the moment).

So, now with the reason why Windows even exists on my computer has been explained, we can continue with the rescuing.

Lately, I’ve been having some issues with the stability of Windows due to its installation age. Naturally, when you cleanly install an OS, its going to be snapping and its performance will decline with use and other applications installed on it.

Some people say that you should reinstall your OS every six months and that seems to work but halts productivity for at least a week. Linux, on the other hand, doesn’t have issues like that (that I noticed). Plus, with updates coming down constantly and a major OS release every six months (at least for Fedora and Ubuntu).

I’m trying to break that cycle by aggressively attacking any performance issues that may be plaguing my system, whether it be malicious code or my own doing.

Day 1

For the first day, I decided that I would do a whole system scan for viruses and malware using Microsoft Security Essentials. This actually proved to be a bad idea as I ran it in the middle of the day. You see, Windows is my main OS which pretty much means all my media (documents, pictures, music, videos, etc.) is on this partition and when scanning each file (seemingly bit per bit), this can take all your processing ability away and for a very long time.

Good news is, after I waited all day for the scan to complete, it reported that there were no viruses detected on my system.

Guess this is a good a time as any to start writing again…

Well, ladies and gentlemen…I’m back!! For the 3 of you that actually follow this blog, I know its been some time since I posted anything original. Between school work, the little work I actually do, and just plain laziness, I really haven’t been on my game as of late.

Well, apparently the last update I made was two months ago when I announced the official launch of ThinkTux Tux Spins. Since then, I’ve been working on the site, little by little (I might write and update soon). But any big updates to the project have been impeded by my attendance in summer school (and that’s another post in itself).

But for those who were wondering if I was actually alive and not replaced by a news aggregating bot, I’m alive and the bot no longer is…

Introducing ThinkTux Tux Spins 1.0

As promised so many times on Twitter, I along with the rest of the ThinkTux team is proud to present Tux Spins, a Fedora 14 LiveCD creator with a twist...This site creates custom images with software that you select packaged in without having to install afterwards (good for CD users).

The problem we tried to tackle with this project was a simple one. We wanted to allow people to have the programs they want on their Operating System prior to install. This would save much needed time in getting things done as the software that you needed or wanted is already on the OS and eliminates you having to install it later on.

An example of this would be a professor who runs a programming competition would normally have to install Fedora on 10 laptops and then go back and install C++ compilers, Java, and NetBeans on each of the systems individually. This would normally take hours. What we have done is give that professor the ability to have those packages and others pre-installed and just install the OS on each system.

This is also helpful for those who want a to use a computer without worrying about leaving any traces behind and having their favorite programs to use such as Thunderbird, Firefox, and SSH.

We even threw in Apache webserver to allow for a portable website, possibly for quick testing.

What the site does is create the Fedora images based off of what you have submitted in the form. The PHP then takes the code and creates to files a kickstart file and a Bash script file which will be used to create the image. The server has two script files that run on a scheduler. One will list the PHP-created script file(s) in a text file. The other reads the text file and runs the scripts in the order listed and removes them before the scheduler comes back to read them again.

Once the images have been completed, the user is emailed to let them know that the image file has been created and is ready for download.

Due to a initial hard disk storage constraint, we were afraid that we weren't able to keep images on the server for very long before we had to delete them. Luckily, right before release, we received a larger hard disk drive and were able to keep the images that were being created by the users for later redownloading.

Also, thanks to this, we will be turning it into a yum repository and Tux Spin image repository with the ability for users to be able to log in and redownload their spins and choosing whether to allow others to download it too.

This project has taken 4 months to complete from initial thought to final release. Please stay tuned for more information as I'm hoping that we can continue to grow this project and make it more useful not only for the Linux community, but for everyone as we spread Linux to the masses.

So, its been a while since I've actually posted anything original on my blogs. I've had a lot to say but they've been mostly caught on Twitter. However, recent events have actually warranted me to go beyond Twitter to say something. There are things on my chest (other than my man-boobs) that I need to get off and 140 characters per idea just aren't good enough.

Recently, I've been somewhat under attack by an unknown user(s) in regards to my personal life through FormSpring. If you aren't familiar with the site, it is a site where people create accounts and invite others to ask questions about them and, in turn, allows them to ask other users questions. What makes the site interesting, however, is the fact that users can choose to remain anonymous when asking the questions and users who don't have accounts can ask anonymous questions. This becomes a double-edged sword for users as it again allows them to ask anonymous questions but at the same time receive anonymous questions and never know who sent them unless those asking the questions decide to come forth.

This has been a problem I've been having to deal with this past week. As previously stated, I've been dealing with a host of anonymous questions flooding my inbox in regards to my weight, my personal life, and even my livelihood. As of this writing, the latest extent of attacks is still going on. I feel like I'm dealing with my own Anonymous and WikiLeaks...lol.

When the first attacks came in, I just let it roll off of me like water and Kool-Aid if I miss my mouth. It wasn't until last night that someone decided to go ham on my livelihood. For those who don't know me, I didn't have many opportunities growing up as a kid. The one outlet I had was technology. I've had people at my church teaching me the basics and others to encouraging as I kept pursuing it despite my parents thinking I was wasting my time. The skills and knowledge I had pushed me to achieve great things at home, at school and in my community before I moved out. It has given me a lot of opportunities and open many doors for me for the nearly 18 years I've pursed this dream of mine.

But last night, someone had the audacity to tell me that I was wasting my time and that I was no good at the only thing I had going for myself in life. That right there cut through my heart like a kitana and for a while, I didn't see any end in sight. "If I can't even get this right, what the hell am I good for?"

Now, before we go off and think I was going to off myself, that wasn't going to happen. I have too much to lose for me to even contemplate that option.

I do want to thank those who did come and see me through what was a dark time for me and gave me some encouraging words and some amazing advice.

After getting up and dusting myself off, I was able to see a silver lining in all this...Clearly whoever is posting it is refusing to come from behind their little shroud and tell me these things face to face. So it makes me feel good that I do have haters and apparently, they hate so much that the refuse to bring their grimy faces to light.

But it is what it is...

But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

How Guerrilla Games made a 3D believer out of me with upcoming Killzone 3…

With PAX right around the corner and news coming from various sites stating that Guerrilla Games will be demoing Killzone 3‘s multiplayer element. I, however, spent some time in Raleigh, North Carolina at Major League Gaming’s 50th Event last weekend. Amongst all of the Super Smash Bros, Tekken 6, StarCraft 2, and Halo 3, Sony was there showing off ModNation Racers and, of course, some of the Killzone 3 single player campaign.

Now granted it was still the same snow level as everyone has been reporting, this time, however, we were able to play it in 3D. As I was told by the representative on the floor, this was the second time fans have been able to play it (the first time being at ComicCon) but making it the first time that fans have been able to play the game on the East Coast and to play it in 3D.

Now, as stated in the before, I’m not a big fan of 3D. I’m not really a big fan of Killzone either (I forced my way through Killzone 2). However, after putting the 3D glasses on and watching the game in action, I became an instant believer in the technology.

What I was expecting was something along the lines of gimmicky techniques like things popping out at you. Guerrilla Games did something completely different with the tech that I hope others will do as well. Instead of having things pop out at you, you are able to look deeper into the screen, making it seem like the flat screen TV was just a window looking into another world. It really helps to immerse the person into the game. When it came to jumping with the jetpack on top of icebergs to cross a river, my friends and I were genuinely scared that I wasn’t going to make it because the icebergs looked like they were actually further away.

But just take my word for it. I have several videos (NSFW due to language) with others giving their impressions and some gameplay.

Crazy Roger Federer Trick Shot a Viral Hit for Gillette [VIDEO]: "

A video featuring tennis star Roger Federer that plays on our collective fascination with “real or fake” hit the web earlier this week and has quickly gone viral, accumulating more than 700,000 views as of this morning.

The video, which was part of a Gillette commercial shoot in Switzerland, features Federer serving a tennis ball and knocking a can off the head of one of the crew members –- twice in a row. This is made particularly compelling because, well, if he missed … you get the idea. Supposedly, it was all filmed in one take.

In response to the “real or fake” question, a Gillette spokesperson tells Mashable, “All we’ll say at the moment is we’ll leave the ‘real or fake’ debate up to the viewers, but the evidence is there to see. Roger’s skill and ability is incredible (that’s why he’s a Gillette ambassador!) so of course it was filmed in one take during a shoot for Gillette Fusion’s partnership with the British Skin Foundation.”

It’s certainly conceivable that the video is real –- after all, Federer has pulled off some of the more remarkable trick shots in recent tennis history –- though we’ll let you all weigh in with your opinion in the comments.
